Literature Text

A fortress
A wall crumbling
Breached
Penetrated
Its strength to protect is faltering as
brick by ancient brick
becomes dust removed and forgotten

Is that the goal?

To know what no one has ever touched
To hover and caress with compassion
To make human the monster that others
molded with the love of a mother's hand

You see through these scars and empty spaces
wrapping bones together with ribbons of light
Excavating encapsulated nightmares of time
Setting free the echoes of a bird caged heart

You break yourself over me
Becoming a window to the legend held in Camelot
Filling me…with hope and desire…
…with an ultimatum…
to listen with once deaf ears
to sing with a once mute tongue
to feel with the heart that was meant to beat
with the rhythm of the sun

I think it is pretty, if sometimes a little cliche. But that's all right - we all have poems like this floating around in our attic souls. What I like about it most is the last stanza. The action described is a lovely self sacrifice, and while ultimatums are not always the way to express love, the things asked for in the finale are love indeed.
